"We plan in line with a course for students to create interactive presentations for the base of the Solar Peace Sculpture. One idea could be that the active presence of the viewer around the sculpture or the active extracted energy of the solar panels will be integrated into the presentation. In line with the sculpture a digital supply is then related to subjects like energy consumption and scarcity of resources. The students get the unique opportunity to participate on an art project."

HTW facing new project challenges

With the planned multi-media-installation in the base of the Solar Peace Sculpture different construction details of the sculpture will have to be changed and adapted, like Prof. Dr. Günter Schmidt-Gönner says. The engineers of the HTW prepare these technical components, which should be moved in the next project phase.

Technical Description (for 120 barrels)
The load-bearing construction of the sculpture consists of a circle made of steel – Outside diameter of 48.28 ft, with a rectangle hollow profile of 8 x 8 in, th = 0.39 in. It has one vertical middle beam of the length of 46.97 ft with a rectangle hollow profile of 8 x 8 in, th = 0.31 in Additionally there are two diagonals attached to this middle beam running approx 45 degrees to a 4 o´clock and 8 o´clock position respectively to the main diameter. Each in length of 23.48 ft with a rectangle hollow profile 8 x 8 in, th = 0.31 in.The footplate is 2 x 45 x 45 in. The welded ribs are 1 x 14 x 14 in. The foot plate is attached to the foundation body by means of 12 foundation anchors. Type Pfeifer PGS 48/480 l The sculpture is founded on an reinforced block foundation {Concrete}.

Foundation measurements of 17.06 x 17.06 x 5.58 ft deep. Total weight of the steel armoring 1.2 ton short Volume of 1624.7 cu.ft; weight 126.7 ton short. The basis area of main support is jacketed by a 8.53 ft high pyramid square pyramid from steel sheet with an inclination 45°. To the construction 121 barrels are fastened with mounting plates 121 x barrels outside diameters 23.03 in Total height 34.72 in.
